    jazz und mehr 2013

And every year the groundhog greets us! This is the fourth time I’ve been involved in the festival, and I guess you could say I’m now part of the furniture. I joined the association straight away and created a website. As always it was my very pleasure to work with those astonishing artists and enjoying the spare time at the island. Here is this years LineUp of JAZZ UND MEEhR 2013: Edith Steyer, Kokotob, SauceEtJazz, Mencia, Aguas de Maio, Ulrich Thiem, Andreas Scotty Böttcher, Klariatura, Triosence, Kathakombo, Katrin Wahl, Elisabeth Tuchmann, Hanna Carlson, FUMMQ, Tango a la Parilla, Hannes Buder…

    jazz und me(e)hr 2010

From the 15th to the 21st of August 2010 I have been live mixing at the JAZZ UND MEEhR Festival at Vitte/Hiddensee. Hiddensee is a wonderful place where Nina Hagen wrote a song about. It was the island of artists back in the GDR. Famous writers, painters and musicians used to live there. And it was an important vacation destination, as GDR citizens were only allowed to travel within the GDR. Till today the island is free of cars, which has a quite a slow down effect. It is a wonderful place to work. After curfew I went to the beach to watch sunset and stars, accompanied by the echo of beautiful sounds. JAZZ UND MEHR is an annually repeating festival which was founded in 2005 by Petra Liesenfeld. This years LineUp included Jaspar Libuda, Walter Gauchel, Ekkehard Wölk, Land Über, Lautmaler, Oloyé, Catrien Stremme, Jeanette Hubert, Malte Weberruß, Ullrich Thiem, Annette Roth, Manfred Dierkes, Pergünth, Thomas Putensen Trio, Jedalka, Canting Nuevo, Beat Freisens Spelunkenorchester…

  • tv noir

I was FOH Engineer at the TV NOIR jubilee show at FESTSAAL KREUZBERG. I was totally stunned by the performances of Florian Ostertag, Alin Coen, Angelika Express and Sven van Thom. It was an awesome evening and here you can watch some of the show! Two of the songs I mixed were even published on the TV NOIR compilation.

  • foh engineer at lido

In the 1960s, the Lido in Berlin was a so-called border cinema. In 2006, I was given the opportunity to work as a FOH engineer on the LIDO team following renovation work. It was exciting to see how the conversion into a live venue took place. The entire building had to be acoustically separated from the adjacent building, and several airlocks were installed to comply with noise protection regulations. My work began in May 2006 with British Music Week, and I got to know many great artists. But the team from the KARRERA KLUB with Kalle and Spencer were also great colleagues. Here is an excerpt of some of the bands I mixed there as a FOH engineer until 2007: You say party we say die, Johnossi, Gus Black, The Subways, Disco Ensemble, Spitting off tall buildings, Morton Valence, Kat Frankie, …

    kladower hafenfest

The Kladow Harbor Festival is a traditional event in Berlin-Spandau, typically held in July at Imchenplatz/Hafen. It is characterized by a mix of maritime atmosphere, live music (often jazz, rock, and pop), food stalls, and arts and crafts. I mixed the main stage this year and it was a great pleasure!

  • foh engineer at punk and disorderly

foh engineer at punk and disorderly

Holy moly! The biggest concert I’ve mixed so far took place at the old techno club METRONOM. It was the Punk and Disorderly Festival, organized by M.A.D. Booking and Coretex Records. We set up a huge diesel generator and had trouble putting in the grounding spikes because the ground was frozen. Then the beverage delivery arrived and the supplier said that 150 bottles of whiskey and 200 kegs of beer were way too much. On the second day, we had to reorder. These punks are a real bunch of drunks :-). There were also a few incidents. A couple of old rockers trashed the backstage area, a drunk bassist urinated in the monitor speaker, and a completely wasted frontman wanted to punch me in the face because he claimed I had given him tinnitus. It turned out that it was probably the coke. Among others, the following bands played at this festival: Shame69, The Business, Dritte Wahl, OHL, Disorder, The Voice, Discipline, The Partisans, District and many more…

  • foh engineer at mad’n’crazy

    foh engineer at mad’n’crazy

Mad’n’Crazy was a rockabilly bar in Berlin Pankow, run by three friends who previously worked at Razzle Dazzle. Dirk, Bärbel, and Kalle threw wild parties here. Unfortunately, they were a little too wild, which is why the bar eventually went bankrupt in 2005.
This is where I had my first experiences as a live mixer and got to know many great bands. Among them were Sienna Root, Sparzanza, Slick Fitty, Rayburn Anthony, Place of Skulls and many more…

    foh engineer at schlachtrufe

After starting my career as a live mixer at Mad’n’Crazy, I had my first concert on a really powerful sound system. The CASINO Berlin was better known for electronic music. But this time, it was the punks’ turn to take center stage. PA rental company TSE AG calibrated and set up the 22KW system, and for two days I was able to blast the earwax out of the guests’ ears. Musically, it wasn’t quite my thing, but there were a few funny bands on the bill. Among others, I mixed the following acts that weekend: OHL, Dödelhaie, Der dicke Polizist, Die Kassierer and many others. The festival was organized by M.A.D. Tourbooking in cooperation with CoreTex Records.
