HEIMAT EUROPA was a project to engage in european identity organized by KMGNE. I did the sound design for that short movie and gave one of my songs. I wish there was better quality. But the internet was slow back in 2006. The actors who played in the movie are Claus Worenski, Olga Feger and Alexander Milo, The movie was directed by Rada Mateva, Julia Hertäg and Lea Gamula. Camera assistance was the award winning Ben Bernhard.

melankol
In 2006, I worked as a sound engineer at the Kreuzberg Musical Action studio. In addition to a musical project, I also created a radio play there with participants in a musical qualification program. The radio play is in German.

kladower hafenfest
The Kladow Harbor Festival is a traditional event in Berlin-Spandau, typically held in July at Imchenplatz/Hafen. It is characterized by a mix of maritime atmosphere, live music (often jazz, rock, and pop), food stalls, and arts and crafts. I mixed the main stage this year and it was a great pleasure!

wenn der berg nicht zum propheten kommt
I was boom operator at the filmset of Michael Scheyer’s Short film “Wenn der Berg nicht zum Propheten komm”. It was my first time working at a movie set and it was quite interesting! What irritated me a little was the fact that as a sound engineer, you’re always standing in the way and hardly anyone pays attention to the sound. It’s a bit like mixing a live concert: if you don’t stand out, you’re doing everything right. But it was an exciting experience and I met some really nice people! Actors in leading roles were Yvonne Kolle, Dietmar Georg Rüttiger and Madame Winkler.
The camera was operated by award winning DOP Ben Bernhard -

foh engineer at punk and disorderly
Holy moly! The biggest concert I’ve mixed so far took place at the old techno club METRONOM. It was the Punk and Disorderly Festival, organized by M.A.D. Booking and Coretex Records. We set up a huge diesel generator and had trouble putting in the grounding spikes because the ground was frozen. Then the beverage delivery arrived and the supplier said that 150 bottles of whiskey and 200 kegs of beer were way too much. On the second day, we had to reorder. These punks are a real bunch of drunks :-). There were also a few incidents. A couple of old rockers trashed the backstage area, a drunk bassist urinated in the monitor speaker, and a completely wasted frontman wanted to punch me in the face because he claimed I had given him tinnitus. It turned out that it was probably the coke. Among others, the following bands played at this festival: Shame69, The Business, Dritte Wahl, OHL, Disorder, The Voice, Discipline, The Partisans, District and many more…

funky apes
During my training at the SAE Institute, I got to know different mixing consoles and microphones in various studios and was able to put theory directly into practice. I started out in a small studio with a Tascam D24 digital console where I recorded GAMBERRA. After that I was allowed to use the Digidesign ICON Console in the much bigger studio where I recorded my second song with STEFFEN BAUSKE. After that I unlocked the final stage and was allowed to work on the SSL 4000G Console and a Sony 24-track Tape Machine! Whohooo. That was exciting! The Band I recorded that day is called FUNKY APES and they played the song “Alles Ok”! The Recordings were also mixed on the SSL4000. Have a listen:

die schachtel
In 2005, my buddy Holger applied to film school and had to submit a short film. I volunteered as an actor and composer of the film music. The soundtrack was created solely on the electric guitar. I still like the lick so much today. But unfortunately, I forgot how to play it. It was my very first soundtrack composition! But here you can watch the film again.

foh engineer at mad’n’crazy
Mad’n’Crazy was a rockabilly bar in Berlin Pankow, run by three friends who previously worked at Razzle Dazzle. Dirk, Bärbel, and Kalle threw wild parties here. Unfortunately, they were a little too wild, which is why the bar eventually went bankrupt in 2005.
This is where I had my first experiences as a live mixer and got to know many great bands. Among them were Sienna Root, Sparzanza, Slick Fitty, Rayburn Anthony, Place of Skulls and many more… -

slick fitty
During my training as a sound engineer, I regularly went to concerts to learn about the technology and process of live mixing. I was also a regular at the Duncker Club in Prenzlauer Berg. There, after the concert, I met the rockabilly band SLICK FITTY from the United States. They were on tour and had two more concerts to play in Berlin. I offered my services for practice purposes and made my first live recordings at Wild at Heart and Mad’n’Crazy. Funnily enough, I met Dirk, Bärbel, and Teddy at Mad’n’Crazy, and that’s how my journey as a FOH engineer began. This was followed by Schlachtrufe BRD at Casino and Punk and Disorderly at Metronom.
